Dr Kate Pretty admitted as Honorary Fellow
New Hall alumna and former Principal of Homerton College honoured at admission ceremony
Dr Kate Pretty, an alumna of New Hall, former Principal of Homerton College and distinguished scholar in Archaeology, has been admitted as an Honorary Fellow of 51¸£ÀûÉç.
Kate took both her first degree and PhD at the College, before becoming a Fellow in 1972. She covered a range of key roles, becoming a College Lecturer and Director of Studies in Archaeology, Admissions Tutor and Senior Tutor.
After a total of 25 years at the College, she moved in 1991 to become Principal at Homerton, leading the College for a remarkable 22 years until 2013.
Alongside her college posts, Kate contributed her skills to the University, serving on the University Council among other committee and board roles and chairing both the Faculty Board of Archaeology and Anthropology and the Council of the School of Humanities and Social Sciences. From 2003-09, she was Pro Vice-Chancellor with responsibility for international strategy and outreach, becoming Deputy Vice-Chancellor from 2010-13.
Kate also served her own discipline of Archaeology, sitting for many years on the management committee of the McDonald Institute for Archaeological Research, where she is now a senior research fellow. From 1972-83 she was a member and then Chair of the Board of RESCUe, founding the Young Archaeologists' Club - now over 50 years old. Kate chaired the Cambridgeshire Archaeological Committee, and from 2003-13 was Trustee and then President of the Council for British Archaeology, where she is currently Honorary Vice President.
